The 4th edition of Healthex International 2013 was inaugurated today by Dr.Sharan Prakash Rudrappa Patil,Minister for Medical Education,Government of Karnataka.Addressing the audience,Dr.Devi Shetty,Founder & Chairman of Narayana Hrudayalaya Group of Hospitals said,”we have first world regulation and third world infrastructure’ in healthcare.He said,the country requires 1 to 1.5 lakh Gynaecologists,but
we have oly 40,000 gynaecologists.In addition,the country requires more anaesthetists &
radiologists to save mother and child at birth.It is shocking to know that nearly 3 lakh children die the day they are born every year.Also there is urgent need to increase the number
of PG seats.Further, though the country is proud of our engineering capabilities,only
23% of medical equipments are manufactured in this country.
The minister said there is an urgent need to have teaching hospitals in every
district.To start with, the government will be setting up 6 such teaching hospitals
in the state.
